Technology That Follows the Musician

Sonation was a music-technology company focused on making instrumental practice more expressive and engaging. Its work combined real-time audio analysis with recorded accompaniment so musicians could rehearse with an ensemble that responded to their playing.

Instead of requiring a performer to follow the fixed tempo of a conventional backing track, Sonation’s technology listened to the live performance and adjusted the accompaniment as the musician changed tempo or phrasing.

Cadenza

Cadenza was Sonation’s responsive music-accompaniment app. It gave students, teachers, amateur musicians and performers access to orchestral accompaniment during individual practice.
