TRANSPARENCY / DATA

A directory built on traceable sources

Geography and telephone numbering are separate datasets. Here is what each source supports — and where coverage remains incomplete.

Official telephone areas

German telephone-area coverage

Official Bundesnetzagentur boundaries (2026-08-10) and area names (2022-07-27) cover 5,200 telephone areas. We matched 82,530 GeoNames populated-place points to those boundaries; 18 points have no match. Each link means the recorded point falls inside the official boundary, not that every address in a settlement uses that code. A settlement may cross boundaries. Number prefixes do not establish a caller’s current location.

ComReg — Irish telephone areas and listed towns

Retrieved 2026-11-06; source undated

© Commission for Communications Regulation. Attributed numbering facts from the official Area Code Maps table; source webpage and maps are not republished.

ComReg table: 49 distinct codes, 106 MNAs and 1,018 town mentions. 643 place links resolve 643 settlements; 375 ambiguous or unmatched mentions remain unlinked. The introduction says 50 codes, but the table contains 49; no additional code is inferred. This is a listed-town subset, not complete Irish settlement coverage.

What a match can — and cannot — tell you

Settlement-level telephone allocations remain incomplete

The full GeoNames settlement and alternate-name snapshots are included without a population threshold. ITU documents, NANPA records and maintained libphonenumber metadata provide numbering evidence. Not all heterogeneous local-code tables have been normalized or matched to places.

We never assign a code to a village merely because its name matches a telephone label or it lies near a city. Number portability also means a prefix does not identify a subscriber’s current location.
